4 c Flour 2 tb Butter
1 1/2 ts Salt 1 1/2 c Buttermilk
1 ts Baking soda 1 c Raisins, optional
2 ts Baking powder
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Combine flour, salt, soda, baking powder and sugar. Cut in butter.
Make well in mixture and gradually mix in enough buttermilk to make a
soft dough. Add raisins if desired.
Knead dough for several minutes until it is smooth. Form into ball and
place on greased and floured baking sheet (smaller size.) Cut a cross
through center of loaf. Keep cross shallow.
Bake at 375 degrees F. for 40 to 50 minutes.
